About Us

     Department of Economics imparts teaching learning at under graduate and post graduate levels. Research is an integral part of the department. The department was established in the year 1952 with under graduate classes. Later in 1959 post graduate classes also started. Presently there are seven sections at under graduate level, which is a three year degree course, with sanctioned strength of sixty students per section. Post graduate classes have one section. The evaluation at under graduate level is undertaken on annual basis whereas semester system is followed for post graduate classes. Department had an illustrious faculty since its inception. Dr. O.K. Saxena joined the college as first head of the department in 1952. After his retirement Dr. B.L. Bhatia (1991), Dr. N.K. Punia (1998), Dr. H.K. Sharma (2001), Dr. Savita Taneja (2011) contributed in the furtherance of the department. Dr. S.C. Sharma, Dr. N. K. Mittal, Dr. R.C. Dua were part of faculty at different points of time. Department has a strength of five faculty members. Faculty members of the department are constantly engrossed in research and publication. In the last two decades approximately thirty researches have been completed on primarily development issues in the area of primary education, agriculture, regional development leading to award of doctorate degree of C.C.S. University, Meerut. Other than these issues finance and banking, energy, various industrial issues have also been catered to. Along with this, nearly 35 papers of the faculty members have been published in different journals, conference proceedings and as part of chapters in books. Five reference books have also been published. A major project on the financial implications of grass root level education has been completed. Dr. R.P. Juyal and Dr. Chinmayee Chaturvedi have provided consultancy to Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Dr. Juyal has been a member of different studies undertaken by LBS National Academy, Mussoorie on educational governance in different states and Union Territories of India such as J&K, Andaman and Nicobar islands, North Eastern states, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Uttarakhand, Punjab etc. He has also been engaged in training local, district and state level officers in educational planning and governance. Dr. Chinmayee Chaturvedi has assisted MHRD in their PG e- Pathshala programme. Faculty is life member to different academic bodies in the discipline at regional and national levels. Dr. Juyal and Dr. Chaturvedi are contributing as editors to UPUEA Economic Journal. Members are also vertically and horizontally mobile. Dr. Juyal has been delivering lectures on research methodology to prospective research scholars in the university. The alumni of the department are well placed in different institutions and organizations ranging from government and private teaching institutions at different levels, banks, social organizations, ministries at central and state level. The department caters to the students from urban and rural areas alike the faculty thus is constantly striving hard to bring out the latent capacities and honing the skills of the students. The current target of the members of the department is to make it an eminent learning and research center at the regional level.
